This is to inform that the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh launched the Swarna Andhra and Swachha Andhra Programme on 18th January 2025, aiming to transform sanitation and hygiene standards in rural areas. To facilitate this, the Government issued comprehensive guidelines through G.O. Rt. No. 24, dated 17th January 2025, outlining year-round activities for systematic waste management across the state.

 

For March 2025, the designated theme is “Avoid Single-Use Plastics (SUPs) – Promote Reusables”.


Concept Communication - “Avoid Single-use and Throw Plastics / Products; Promote suitable reusables".

 

Theme-Based Activities for March, 2025

  • Avoid single-use plastic items and avoid littering Paper/Plastic and other products
  • Demonstrate suitable Reusable alternatives
  • Use only reusables across all public, private establishments and institutions – Govt. entities to be role-models of Reusables
  • Conduct campaigns on negative impact of SUPs and promote greener alternatives for health and wealth

Expected Outcomes

  • Use and throw culture is discouraged
  • Prevents dumping, burning and burying of waste
  • Promotes circular economy
  • Less burden and lesser volumes for waste managers (including RLBs)

Hence all the District Panchayat Officers are instructed to take the following necessary steps to ban single-use plastics in their Gram Panchayats:

  • Raising awareness about the harmful impacts of single-use plastics and promoting reusable alternatives through wide publicity, social media
  • campaigns that can educate the public and also organize local Meetings, clean-up drives, and awareness programs.
  • Advocate policies that ban or tax single-use. Instruct all Gram Panchayats to pass resolutions prohibiting Single Use Plastic (SUPs) to impose penalties on users and vendors of SUPs.
  • Promote 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) among public.
  • Highlighting the positive work in reduction of plastic being done through social media and digital Platforms.
  • On 3rd Saturday of March, 2025 i.e. 15.03.2025, all field functionaries should be alerted for effective implementation and activities to be updated in SASA app.
  • Documentation of Targets and achievements are required from Districts. Trainings on segregation of waste at household level should be conducted. 
  • Ensure to Improve Circular Economy.

Very Important Note:

  1. Swachatha Gram Sabha should be conducted on 15.03.2025 in all Gram
  2. At Household level necessary training should be given to all families to adopt waste segregation process. Dry waste including Plastic material should separated and stored in a separate bag. Dry waste should be handed over to Green Ambassadors on Saturdays only.

Further instructed to implement the list of activities related to PR&RD department and general activities are herewith attached and also informed to strictly adhere to Operational guidelines specified in G.O.Rt.No.24, dated 17.01.2025 from SAC.
