The State Government have launched a prestigious Foundational Reading Literacy Campaign in the name of We Love Reading (Chadavadam Makishtam) This Campaign was launched on 26th November on the occasion of Constitution Day at State level by Honourable Minister for Home and Disaster Management Honourable Minister for Education in Guntur. On the same day, same time the campaign was launched in all district and mandal head quarters.
In this mission mode programme all children are provided with different avenues at school, home & village to read in a joyful environment. Teachers, parents, youth, retired persons, academicians, NGOs etc. will have to take lead role to run the program to the fullest extent.
The main objective of the Programme is to inculcate continuous reading habit in students as well as Teachers. For bringing awareness on the importance of Reading especially during leisure time, it has been decided to launch Sunday Story Time programme on every Sunday starting from 06.12.2020.
On Every Sunday a reading activity shall be conducted by gathering children in the Public Libraries/ Colony/ Street/ ward by Librarian, Education & Welfare Assistant and volunteers of the Grama Sachivalayam. Head master of the School shall conduct a meeting with Librarian, Education & Welfare Assistant and volunteers of the Grama Sachivalayam regarding Sunday Story time.
For this, as the Libraries provide conducive environment for reading, it has been decided to launch the Sunday Story Time as part of mass reading activity from the Public Libraries run by the State. One main reading activity shall be conducted by the librarians at all District Central Libraries, Branch Libraries, Village Libraries, Book Deposit centres on all Sundays. Mass reading has to be conducted from 10.00 AM to 12.00 Noon for students of classes 3rd to 9th. All the Public Libraries staff have to take part in this programme. Local leaders may be involved in this campaign for propagating the motto of We Love Reading campaign to the community.
Starting from the Sunday on 6-12-2020, every Sunday the Head Master, Teachers have to educate the students and to visit the locality where Mass reading will be conducted and also to invite all students to participate in mass reading activity from 10 AM to 12 Noon duly following Covid-19 precautions.
On Saturday 5-12-2020 Head master, teachers, Education & Welfare Assistant and staff of Public Libraries shall select one book from their library or the School Library preferably children literature or children's story books (CLIL BOOKS/NBT BOOKS/CBT BOOKS) in the required quantity.
On 06-12-2020 from 10 AM to 12 Noon Librarians, Education & Welfare Assistant have to select one reading volunteer for the day. Read the selected story after brief introduction of the mass reading activity, after that all students shall read the same story on their own.
In this Context the Director Public Libraries and his team. District Educational Officers, Additional Project Coordinators of APSS in the State, Principals of DIETS and the Nodal persons from DIETS are hereby instructed to take immediate necessary steps for the successful conduct of Sunday Story Time from 10AM to 12 Noon on every Sunday in all villages. They are requested to attend the nearest library and take the lead in promoting community reading.
The APCs and DEOs are requested to send photographs of mass reading programme conducted at their libraries to this office. During the mass reading activity, reading pledge may also be taken up.
