O R D E R :
In the G.O. 2nd read above, orders were issued extending two percent (2%) sports reservations to meritorious sportspersons in direct recruitment in Government Departments / Undertakings / grant-in-aid Institutions at all levels.
2) In the reference 4th read above, the Vice Chairman & Managing Director, Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh, Vijayawada has reported that Ball Badminton game is a popular team game which is being played for more than 100 years in India. He reported how the game is very popular in Southern States particularly in Andhra Pradesh. He mentioned that players of all age groups play this racquet game which involves great skill and precision while being affordable to many being an inexpensive game. In recognition to the skill involved in this game, Government of India has awarded Sri J. Pitchaiah, an icon of this game from Andhra Pradesh the prestigious Arjuna award for Ball Badminton in 1970. MD SAAP mentioned that every year around 16,000 players are participating in playing this game in various tournaments i.e., Nationals, SGFI, Inter District, Universities, Inter College Meets, Grig Meets, and this game is included in professional courses i.e., MBBS, Engineering, IIIT, Polycet and other courses under sports quota as per G.O.Ms.No.10, YAT&C (Sports) Department, Dated 15-07-2008. Therefore, he has requested Government to include the Ball Badminton game for 2% Sports reservation to meritorious sports persons in direct recruitment in State Government / Undertakings / Grant-in-Aid institutions at all levels and requested for amendment to G.O.Ms.No.74, YAT&C (Sports) Department, Dated 09-08-2012.
3) After careful examination of the proposal, Government decided to include Ball Badminton game for 2% Sports reservation to meritorious sports persons in direct recruitment in State Government / Undertakings / Grant-in-Aid institutions at all levels by amending the orders issued in G.O.Ms.No.74, YAT&C (Sports) Department, Dated 09-08- 2012 :
4) The following amendment is issued to the orders issued in G.O.Ms.No.74, YAT&C (Sports) Department, Dated 09-08- 2012
AMENDMENT
In Annexure-I to the said orders, after Item No.29, the following item shall be added, namely:
“(30) BALL BADMINTON”
5) All the departments in government of Andhra Pradesh will take cognisance of this amendment.
6) The Vice Chairman and Managing Director, Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh, Vijayawada shall take necessary action accordingly in communicating to all concerned.
