The attention of the all the Regional Joint Director of School Education and District Educational Officers in the State is invited to the reference read above (copy enclosed) wherein the "People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals" (PETAl has explained in detailed description of violence against animals to obtain leather is given. The animals used for leather lead miserable lives and endure painful deaths and which are crammed onto vehicles in such H1egally high numbers that their bones often snap, and many suffocate and die on route etc.,
Further, the PETA has requested the Commissioner of School Education. A.P., to take necessary steps to ",-ear Canvas shoes instead of leather for the students in their school uniform in all schools in thc State of Andhra Pradesh, so that violence against these animals could be reduced by reducing the consumption of leather. In India, some of the states have already taken steps to wear canvas shoes instead of leather for the students uniform.
Therefore, all Regional Directors of School Education and all the District Education Officers in the State are requested to issue necessary instructions to all Dy. Educational Officers, Mandal Educational Officers and Headmasters of all managements of all schools under their jurisdiction to wear Canvas shoes for the students in their school uniform, which are more resistant to wear and tear,
more comfortable and relatively inexpensive and free from toxic chemicals and also violence against these animals could be reduced by reducing the consumption of leather.
These instructions should be followed scrupulously.
