Sub:- Public Libraries – Request for Cooperation of District Educational Officers to attract the attention of the School Children during the summer holidays to the Libraries – Regarding.

I wish to inform you, that the Department of Public Libraries, AP.,Amaravathi is one of the Directorate working under the control of School Education Department at Secretariat Level and which is playing Active Role in dissemination of information from School level to College level and also in providing information to the Scholars and provides to all kinds of reading potential. As such Libraries are treated as knowledge hubs and information centers.
I also inform you that a review meeting is conducted with all the Secretaries of Zilla Grandhalaya Samsthas and Gazetted Librarians of the Regional Libraries from 16.02.2017 to 17.02.2017 at Vijayawada. During the review, I have discussed how to attract the children to come to Library during the holidays like Dasara, Sankranthi and summer holidays and also on Public holidays like second Saturday and Sunday.
It is observed that most of the Schools are not having Libraries of their own, they have only limited books at school level. In this context, It is essential to mold the students to use the Public Libraries in leisure time especially in holidays to improve reading habit among them.
Now it is the right time to motivate and mold the students to go to Public Libraries during holidays. So that they can improve their knowledge and skills etc.,
It is further informed that the clear instructions also issued to all the Secretaries, Zilla Grandhalaya Samsthas and Gazetted Librarians of Regional Libraries in the state to invite and receive the children and provide books which are suitable to to their age group and also essential for them Also instructed them to maintain separate Register for them to record how they frequently visited Libraries, what are the books which they read daily. And also conduct competitions like i.e.,
Essay writing, Elocution, Story Writing, Story telling etc., For the above purpose, it is decided to request the Head Masters and teachers working in different schools, to assign topics to the students at all levels, day wise and instruct the students to visit the nearby Libraries compulsorily and acquire the information of their own and submit the same to the School teacher duly signed by the Librarian of the Library who provide the information. Further the students may be instructed to submit the names of the books they read and referred in the Library duly signed by the Librarian of the Library to the teachers after reopening of Schools
In this connection, I request all the District Educational Officers in the state to issue instructions to all the Head masters and teachers to inspire the student to go to libraries daily during summer holidays and to submit the list of books read and referred in the library duly signed by the Librarians concerned.
I once again request all the District Educational Officers in the State to co-operate
to implement the action plan to improve the reading habit among the children in the state.
